We woke up today to news we could hardly believe. How could the hypnotizing voice and message of Vaughn Benjamin, one of the leaders of Midnite, be silenced forever?
We sought more information about the cause of death, received phone calls and messages from various places, but until then there had been no communication from the family or from the band Akae Beka, his current project.
Out of respect for the family, we did not disclose the fact earlier, waiting for more concrete information or at least some official statement. The Benjamin family is very dear in Brazil through the music produced by Vaughn, Ron, his brother and founder of Midnite, and their father, Ronald Benjamin Sir.
Check this and other legends who have already left us in the special "In Memoriam" section.
A BLOW TO THE FANS
Grief took over the internet channels, and countless fans around the world mourn this enormous loss for world reggae. In Brazil, where the band played a few times, many followers recall magical moments when they had contact with the group, and all unanimously reinforce the humility, uprightness and spiritual elevation of the members, especially Vaughn Benjamin. Founded in 1989 in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, the band became known for its imposing and hypnotic sound power and dense, enlightening messages about the world's ills, the turbulent global political scenario, social inequality, and how consciousness could be the key to humanity's salvation.

From "Ras Mek Peace" and "Unpolished" onward, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge, and Midnite became one of the hardest-working bands in reggae history, officially releasing more than 50 albums in just over 10 years. A few years ago, Vaughn went solo and the project became Akae Beka.
What remains is longing and gratitude for the magical passage here of one of the most emblematic figures in the history of Jah's rhythm. May God comfort his friends and family.
